3 November - Gorge-ous Mimosa - Day trip

UPDATE: Ian has updated the Grade to Moderate (from Easy/Moderate).

Walk Coordinator(s): Ian Bovill and Ulrike Groiss

Meet: 09:00 - Tanja: Intersection of Dr. George Mountain Rd and Tathra-Bermagui Rd. Note: If you are coming via Dr. George Mountain Rd. please call Ian Bovill before the walk - we will meet you at the junction of Quarry Rd with Dr. George Mountain Rd. (Meeting Point 44) - about 7.9km from East St. Bega along Tarraganda Rd. about 9:20am.

Grade: Moderate
Distance: 7 km
Description: This is a relatively short walk, through tracks, open bush and rock-hopping. We explore one of the beautiful, secret gorges of Mimosa National Park.  Following the flooding of the gorge last year, the deposition of flotsam in the Gorge and regrowth have made it necessary to modify the route of the walk. There is now a slightly steeper section to the entry and exit paths (but still through open bush) than previously. Some of the rock-hopping in the gorge has been made more difficult by obstructions.

In the now unlikely event that there is rain (again) before this walk, we will have to switch to another walk in Mimosa. This walk was scheduled for 2012, but had to be changed dramatically because of rain and consequent flooding of the gorge. We'll have more luck this time!  Thanks go to John Henshaw for the idea and reccy for this walk.
4WDs welcome! At Tanja, we will car-pool into as many 4WD vehicles as possible.

Great photos from Mark!

20 October - Ben Boyd NP. - Severs Beach to Haycock's Beach - Day trip

Walk Coordinator(s): Jan Porter and Neil Porter
Meet: 09:30
- Pambula shops car-park (behind Pambula Pub/PO, entrance via Merimbola St)
Grade: Easy  (to easy-moderate)
Distance: 9-10 km
Description: A circular walk from Severs Beach to Haycock's via the headland track and back via NP roads from Haycock's to (edit) Bar Mouth then along the ridge back to Severs. Bush tracks, beautiful outlook from viewpoints along the hilltop walk from bar mouth to Haycock's, beach (2km) and made roads. May be reversed, depending on tide.

This walk is easy in terms of exertion, but moderate in that some of the time we'll be off track - it's "easy off-track", in clear, regenerating (after bushfires last year) forest, but off-track nonetheless.

At this time of the year it might be wise to wear long pants and gaiters if you have them - snakes are definitely out and about.

There should be swimming opportunities in a couple of places if the weather is kind.

No matter how many times I see this I take a picture ;)
Secret Beach

Quite a crowd!
